Portfolio
The work Carduelis CHR does covers a number of different areas. Take a look through the projects below to get a flavour of what I do and how I do it. Click the links below to take a look at some of my work!
Exploring Leicester's Hidden Nightlife Project
I worked with 2Funky Arts as a researcher and content writer for an project and exhibition covering the vibrant history of Leicester’s nightlife. The project centres on venues and events from the 70s to the present day, focusing specifically on Music of Black Origin. I conducted oral history interviews, completed archival research and created content for the exhibition, which is being funded and supported by Historic England.
17 Friar Lane
I was asked to conduct research on this historic Georgian building in Leicester City Centre by its new owner. Built in the late-eighteenth century, 17 Friar Lane was home to a number of important families and key figures in Leicester life. I created an in-depth research document for the owner, covering the story of the building ahead of a sympathetic restoration, which has allowed it to become a modern office space.
LeicesterShire Historic Churches Trust
I work as coordinator for the annual Ride + Stride fundraising event, which helps raise money for repairs to historic churches, on behalf of LeicesterShire Historic Churches Trust. I also oversee the Trust’s social media accounts and help spread the word about the work the Trust does.
The Online Rule
I wrote an article for this digital football blog on Dorking Wanderers FC and the series Bunch of Amateurs. The piece looks at how Youtube and TikTok has brought new audiences to this non-league club that are certainly on the up.
365 People PR Campaign
I worked with recruitment agency 365 People to promote a move to a new office space in Leicester, securing the company coverage in numerous industry publications. I also did a write-up on their launch party and the company's ambitious growth plans.
St Patrick's Chapel and School
For this research project, I wrote a history of this former Catholic chapel and school, built in the late C19th by Irish migrants to Leicester.
Pedestrian Grime Opera Heritage Document
I was engaged by Pedestrian to create a heritage document charting the history of Leicester's Grime scene. Pedestrian is currently organising a Grime Opera, and the heritage document is being used to inform a film that is being created as part of the event. I interviewed a number of figures from Leicester’s Grime scene to create the heritage document, and also helped set up recorded interviews with these figures for the film company.
Seed Creativity
I wrote an article for Seed Creativity on the effects that flooding can have on animal and human life. Seed is an environmentally-conscious creative agency based in Leicestershire that works with research institutions to bring about positive change and create new approaches to difficult challenges around climate change, environmental issues and more.
Scunthorpe United Football Club
Throughout the 2022-23 season, I contributed ‘potted history’ articles to the Scunthorpe United F.C. matchday programme. These articles profiled the away team for readers and covered everything from nicknames, grounds and crests to the major titles and matches of Scunthorpe United's opposition.
Williams Commerce
I researched and wrote an article for ecommerce agency Williams Commerce on the history of their new offices in Leicester City Centre. The building was previously a boot and shoe factory.
Forgotten Clubs -
Loughborough F.C
I researched for and wrote an article for this global football blog on Loughborough FC. This club was a member of the Football League from 1895-1900, and are still to this day the team that inflicted Arsenal F.C. with their heaviest ever defeat.
Outside Write -
The Kop at Wrexham
I wrote an article for this blog on the Kop Terrace at Wrexham FC's Racecourse Ground, one of the most iconic stands in British football.
